Garnishment on the Rise

Let us take a look:
__________

PHOENIX — When the bank sued Leann Weaver for not paying her credit card balance, her reaction was typical for someone in that situation. Personal and financial setbacks weighed her down, and she knew she owed the $2,470. So she never went to court to defend herself.

She was startled by what happened next. When she swiped her debit card at the grocery store, it was declined. It turned out Capital One Bank had taken $224.25 from her paycheck, a quarter of her wages for two weeks of work at a retail chain, and her bank account was overdrawn.

Commercial Real Estate delinquent balance up 326%

let us take a look
____________

In January 2010, the delinquent unpaid balance for CMBS increased by another $4.3 billion, up to $45.94 billion from $41.64 billion a month prior. The overall delinquent unpaid balance is up 326% from one-year ago (when only $10.79 billion of delinquent unpaid balance was reported for January 2009), and is now over 20 times the low point of $2.21 billion in March 2007. The distressed 90+-day, Foreclosure and REO categories grew in aggregate for the 25th straight month – up by $7.42 billion (28%) from the previous month and over $27.95 billion (508%) in the past year (up from only $5.51 billion in January 2009). This included a substantial jump in 90+-day delinquency in January 2010.

Overall, the total unpaid balance for CMBS pools reviewed by Realpoint for the January 2010 remittance was $797.3 billion, up slightly from $797.18 billion in December 2009 (affected by
some servicer and trustee reporting delays). Both the delinquent unpaid balance and delinquency percentage over the trailing twelve months are shown in Charts 1 and 2, clearly
trending upward. The resultant delinquency ratio for January 2010 of 5.76% (up from the 5.22% reported one month prior) is over four times the 1.281% reported one-year prior in
January 2009 and 20 times the Realpoint recorded low point of 0.283% from June 2007. The increase in both delinquent unpaid balance and ratio over this time horizon reflects a steady increase from historic lows in mid-2007.

Foreclosures broaden up the chain

Foreclosures hitting more people with good credit

The latest evidence was a report Thursday that a rising proportion of fixed-rate home loans made to people with good credit are sinking into foreclosure. That's a shift from last year, when riskier subprime loans drove the housing crisis.

The report from the Mortgage Bankers Association also found that 14 percent of homeowners with a mortgage were either behind on payments or in foreclosure at the end of September. It was a record-high figure for the ninth straight quarter.

The data suggest the housing market and the broader recovery will remain under pressure from the surge in home-loan defaults, especially as unemployment keeps rising. Lost jobs are the main reason homeowners are falling behind on their mortgages.

Auto Sales Down

Let's take a look.......

_______________

..................U.S. auto sales had averaged 16.4 million annually this decade through 2008, when sales plunged to 13.2 million. Rates continued to drop this year, hitting 27-year lows before appearing to bottom out. Analysts now are forecasting several years of gentle increases.

In the meantime, low sales and high cost structures sent all three Detroit automakers scrambling to restructure. GM and Chrysler did so under government-sponsored bankruptcy, while Ford has restructured within its own resources. Ford reached a tentative agreement this week with the UAW to bring its costs in line with those of its Detroit rivals.

The companies are now poised to profit at new sales levels. For instance, the government says GM's restructuring will eventually make it profitable in a 10-million-unit sales environment.............

Oregon's Minimum wage to drop?

Oregon's Minimum wage to drop? Oregon's minimum wage is tied to CPI. CPI drops so this should drop minimum wage. Let us take a look...
________________________

DENVER – Colorado will become the first state to reduce its minimum wage because of a falling cost of living.

The state Department of Labor and Employment ordered the wage down to $7.24 from $7.28. That's lower than the federal minimum wageof $7.25, so most minimum wage workers would lose only 3 cents an hour.

Colorado is one of 10 states where the minimum wage is tied to inflation. The indexing is thought to protect low-wage workers from having flat wages as the cost of living goes up.

..........Other states with minimum wages that rise with inflation are Arizona, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Vermont and Washington........

Christmas is still coming!

Christmas is coming and on that note Oregon has something to feel good about! Let's take a look....
________________

Oregon still Nation's leading producer of Christmas Trees.

The latest survey of Oregon’s Christmas tree industry shows once again why the production and sale of the state’s eighth ranked commodity is so economically important. Despite many current and future challenges, Oregon’s growers remain ahead of the pack when it comes to US production of Christmas trees.

“Oregon’s Christmas tree industry generates a great deal of economic activity, and this latest survey continues to prove it,” says Gary McAninch, supervisor of the Oregon Department of Agriculture’s Nursery and Christmas Tree Programs. “Our inspectors know very well how important the industry is since they are the ones who certify the trees are clean and ready for shipment. It will only be a few more weeks before the first trees of the season will be inspected and shipped out.”
